In partnership with Wigan Council, the national homelessness charity Depaul UK has launched Supported Lodgings in Wigan. Depaul UK are urgently looking for local hosts with a spare room to support the initiative. Supported lodgings hosts are people in the community who open their homes to young care leavers aged 16 – 21. They provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for the young person.
Becoming a Supported Lodgings host is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a young person’s life. Many young people leaving care or facing homelessness need a safe and supportive environment to develop the confidence and skills needed for independent living. By opening their home, hosts can provide them with stability, guidance, and encouragement during this crucial stage of their journey.
Supported Lodgings offers people the opportunity to host the same young person for a duration of 6 - 24 months, during which time they help them to develop important practical life skills such as cooking and cleaning to offer them the best chance of success in their own tenancy in the future. Hosts will receive £195 per week. Supported Lodgings staff will support both the host and young person throughout the placement. Extensive training and ongoing support is provided to hosts.
This role can work around your lifestyle and you do not need to leave your current employment. All you need to get involved is a spare room in a safe, home environment and the desire to help a young person in need by offering practical support.
