Counselling and Therapeutic Interventions for Working with Women Overcoming Experiences of Violence: A Multicultural and Feminist Approach (accredited course)

Course Times

Registration on each day starts from 9.30am, the training will start at 10am and end at 4.30pm on each day.

About This Course

This programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the issues involved in working with women recovering from experiences of gendered based violence. It is informed by feminist principles and promotes a holistic range of therapeutic techniques that reclaim ancient and traditional women centred ways of healing, seeking inspiration and expression from diverse global cultures. The programme also incorporates the latest advancements in neuroscience to aid understanding of the physiological responses of trauma and the long term global impact on women and girls’ lives.

The training programme consists of 12 one-day sessions, with a combination of lectures, exercises, role plays and multimedia presentations. The interactive nature of the course provides delegates with an opportunity to participate in and contribute to the training. Participants will also be able to learn from each other and the facilitators.This course is accredited by OCN London and has a total credit value of 18 credits. The course is assessed through the completion and submission of a professional log book and role play practice.

  • Counselling Knowledge=3 credits
  • Counselling Skills = 3 credits
  • Introduction to Therapeutic and Holistic Techniques =3 credits
  • Issues for Survivors = 3 credits
  • Listening and Responding Skills in a Support Role = 3 credits
  • Personal Development = 3 credits

Themes covered include:

  • Effective Communication – active listening, supportive and counselling skills
  • Working Effectively with Diversity –exploration of self-awareness, identification of oppressive systems, diversity, inclusivity and intersectionality and multicultural competencies
  • Gendered violence against women and girls – exploration and continuum of gendered violence from a feminist analysis and global perspective
  • Consequences of violence – The global Impact of violence and trauma on the life cycle of women and girls including the trauma cycle from a neuroscience perspective.
  • Therapeutic Interventions- creative approaches and techniques for working with trauma
  • Empowerment Strategies for healing and recovery –skills for empowerment and resilience from feminist and strength based perspectives including feminist activism.
  • Sacred space - Exploration of participants self-care holistic response and personal development
  • Holistic healing – Integrated approach to working with mind spirit and body from a global perspective.

Please note that once you have been allocated a place any non-attendance or non- completion of the portfolio will result in an administration cost of £50.
