About this course

Main aim: To introduce concepts in Counselling Skills and to discuss further studies.

Part 1: A brief exploration into a selected range of counselling skills concepts and terminologies.

Part 2: A reflection on their own beliefs, values and self-development needs in preparation for further training in the counselling and related professions.

Please note that this course cannot offer counselling or therapy.  If you are in need of professional counselling please follow the link to the Find a Therapist pages by visiting

 www.BACP.org.uk

  • This is an introductory workshop that explores counselling skills and concepts.
  • It will also touch on content of the CACHE Level 2 Qualification, consisting of four taught modules with additional individual study where learners will gain a thorough and comprehensive grounding in the theories and practice of counselling skills.
  • In addition, learners will engage in activities to work on their own personal development, beliefs and values to be ready for working in counselling relationships.
  • This course is very suitable for people thinking about working in the helping and pastoral professions.
  • Teaching, learning and assessment will be in a virtual classroom.

Learners will achieve two things in terms of their counselling skills development: establishing where they are now and developing a plan of where they want to be in their future studies.

  • No specific prior knowledge or skills are required.
  • Personal qualities of empathy and being a good listener are a great advantage.
  • Learners will be expected to participate fully in group and individual learning.

Suggested Reading for the course:

  • There is no set course book. However, a useful starter book with text and activities is:
  • Introduction to Counselling Skills by Richard Nelson-Jones

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
