Overview

Gain valuable skills for the workplace like fostering understanding, resolving conflicts, and supporting colleagues in difficult situations

6 x 3 hour sessions every Friday from 10am to 1pm - Online via Microsoft Teams

Friday 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th May and 5th & 12th June 2026

Theis Level 2 accredited course covers the use of communication skills, whilst observing non-verbal behaviours and using active listening skills, including paraphrasing, reflection and summarising.

You will learn:

  • how to use and evaluate the skill of questioning, probing and focusing.
  • the three core conditions in the person-centred approach to counselling
  • the use of counselling skills will be assessed by the learners.
  • Second level counselling, explored in role-play situations.
  • how to use and evaluate the skills of advanced empathy, confrontation and immediacy.

As well as booking via Eventbrite, you must complete a student registration with Adult Learning Wales in order to participatie in this course.

Registration details will be sent to you by the UNISON Cymru learning team by email.

Those who do not complete the Adult Learning Wales registration will have their booking cancelled and their place offered to other learners.

To complete this course, you will need to attend ALL sessions. If this course is during work time, please ensure your employer has granted you time off to attend.


This course is organised by UNISON Cymru Wales and is funded by the Wales Union Learning Fund (WULF). To attend this course, you must be living/working in Wales and be employed within public services.
