About this course

Come and join us to celebrate the Paris Olympics in your local library this summer. We are putting on a series of FREE creative maths challenges for you and your child. There will be an opportunity to make, measure and model over 2-hours.

What will be covered on the course?
You and your child will use basic maths skills, linked to the primary curriculum, to make paper javelins, medals, the Eiffel Tower and Olympic themed maths games*. The sessions are informal and provide a fun way to introduce maths concepts. You will work with your child to measure, shape, cut and produce a maths challenge.

*activity will differ depending on library location

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

By the end of the course, and depending on the activity, you and your child will be more confident measuring distance, constructing 3D shapes and have improved your mental maths.

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

Children must be mature enough to take part in making activities and engage with fun explanations. Adults must be accompanied by a child (maximum 2 children per adult) and children must be accompanied by an adult – you will be working together to complete the maths challenge set.

This course is for people who don’t already have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above) or are not confident in using maths at this level.

All learners who complete an enrolment form will be entered into a prize draw to win shopping vouchers worth,

1st prize: £100

2nd prize: £50
3rd prize: £20

Will the learner receive anything for free for attending?
The things they make.
