Countdown to Crossrail - West to Heathrow
Saturday, 26 March 2016 from 11:30 to 14:00 (GMT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
The largest construction project in Europe will be complete at the end of 2019. Crossrail trains will be running east-west under the capital connecting Essex and Kent with central London and Berkshire. It will be possible to possible to travel from Heathrow to Canary Wharf in just 39 minutes; without changing trains. In terms of scale, Crossrail will add 10% to London’s railway capacity.
On this tour we use part of the existing Heathrow Connect route to view the Crossrail works and landmarks towards the West of London. The Heathrow Connect service itself will be taken over by Crossrail in 2018. At Hayes & Harlington we leave the train to complete our journey by bus. This will allow us to enjoy at close hand the hustle and bussle of a busy airport.
The tour lasts about two and a half hours and we end at one of the largest pieces of public art in the country. Please bring your oystercards or contactless bank cards to cover the cost of fares. The tour is free.
Note that you can use the Heathrow Connect service to return to London but premium fares are charged between Heathrow and Hayes & Harlington. Oystercards and Travelcards are not valid between these stations.
