Event Details

Last February over 120 counter-fraud colleagues from universities across the UK travelled to London for the inaugural Counter-Fraud in HE Conference. The event was a great success, and we’ve decided to make it an annual feature with this second edition taking place on Monday 6th March.

While the feedback to the first event was overwhelmingly positive, we’ve responded to your constructive comments and for this event we’ve:

  • Reduced the number of sessions but increased the focus on making them event more HE-specific and practical
  • Introduced a number of ‘Idea Swaps’ – facilitated, interactive sessions to make the most of delegate expertise
  • Moved the venue to the Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden. The venue was delegates’ least favourite aspect of last year’s event. And…
  • Tweaked the timings of the day so it starts a little earlier and finishes a little earlier, so delegates aren’t so late getting home

While we’ve reduced the overall number of sessions, this year’s event still contains a mix of Plenary, Panel, and Breakout sessions that we hope will prove thought provoking and challenging, and will make a valuable contribution to your counter-fraud role. These include sessions on internal counter-fraud communication, fraud risk management and governance, testing counter-fraud procedures and measures, anti-money laundering, making the most of frauds when the do occur, basic forensics, asset and inventory fraud, and more.

The full programme can be downloaded from the BUFDG website here.

The conference is intended for staff at UK HEIs who have counter-fraud responsibilities – either specifically or just as part of their role. If you have any questions about the event, please email Matt Sisson, or ring him on 01509 228852.

BUFDG

The British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG) is the representative body for higher education finance staff in the United Kingdom.

Our members are the Directors of Finance and Chief Financial Officers of almost all UK higher education institutions, and our events are run for them and their staff.

BUFDG has the following objectives:

  • to be the recognised channel for the provision, analysis and dissemination of information and comment to all members and other stakeholders concerning best practice in financial management and related topics in higher education.
  • to be the pre-eminent source for information, advice, support, and comment on matters of financial strategy and management in higher education in the UK.
  • to promote high standards and best practice in accounting, audit and financial management in higher education.
  • to provide appropriate opportunities for training and development of higher education finance directors and their staff.
  • to work in partnership with related organisations to provide forums for discussion, consultation and exchange, both nationally and regionally.

All finance staff at these institutions have their own BUFDG account, which gives them access to this website, and to information resources on training, financial news and all the latest reports and developments in higher education finance.

To find out more about BUFDG, please contact the BUFDG office on 01509 22 88 58 or via the website.
