Event description

Description

Dr. Richard Pears, FRSA, an academic librarian at Durham University and President of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne, will give a lecture in this impressive venue at the Museum of the Royal Navy. Dr Pears will examine the evolution of the region’s great houses from 1100 to 1900, emphasising how new aesthetic ideas developed as their military role declined and how the houses became repositories of art from Britain, Europe and the expanding Empire. The event ends at lunch time but guests may wish to take the opportunity to visit the adjacent Hartlepool Museum (free) or the Museum of the Royal Navy (entrance charge).

Coffee and biscuits will be available beforehand. There is a large free car park outside the museums.
