About this event

Please note: this course has two parts Tuesday 18th and 25th November 2025 - course candidates are expected to attend both sessions

This training is for Coventry PVI settings and Childminders only

Course content:

  • To recap and refresh understanding of the role of the DSL, including local and national updates and/or changes to legislation
  • Opportunities to reflect on your role as DSL
  • To recap how to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Applying safeguarding knowledge to a range of scenarios
  • Ensuring procedures are in place for safer recruitment of staff, including childminding assistants

Childminders and Early Year’s settings must refresh their safeguarding training every two years (Training must be renewed every two years EYFS Statutory Framework September 2025). This course will satisfy all statutory requirements (including covering the requirements of Annex C EYFS Statutory Framework September 2025), update knowledge and further develop practitioner competence and confidence in carrying out the lead safeguarding role. Delegates will be equipped with the skills to effectively safeguard children in their care. There will also be opportunities to take part in professional reflections with other DSLs.

Supporting documents will be sent out to all course candidates after fully attending both training sessions

If a practitioner has completed their Initial DSL through another Local Authority or training organisation, they can book on this DSL Refresher course.
