Event description

Description

Technology companies and start-ups are changing the world, but sometimes struggle to get their messages out there. This event, in Manchester, will help you understand how to gain press for your company.

Business journalist Jon Card, who writes regularly for The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and The Times, has teamed up with Manchester-based agency Toast PR to create this unique event aimed at the city's start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Jon has interviewed hundreds of entrepreneurs during his 15 year long career and will explain why some companies gain more publicity than others, why your PR campaign might not be working and what you can do to gain more publicity.

He'll highlight the storytelling techniques used by famous names such as Sir Richard Branson, James Dyson, Anita Roddick, Innocent Drinks and Brewdog.

This event will lift the lid on how the media selects stories for publication and give you the tools you need to make your media campaign a success.

Jon will be joined by successful entrepreneurs and business owners who will share their stories and describe how they gained coverage for their businesses.

So join us in Manchester for a great session of media advice and insight into the how the business press works.

Key questions answered in this session

- Why some campaigns gain huge amounts of coverage while others fail

- How to create a compelling narrative for your business

- How to find the right journalist to contact

- How and when to approach a journalist

- What companies need to do to prepare for interaction with the press

- What are the key resources companies need to launch a successful media campaign

What you'll get out of it

All attendees will be invited to join a free online Coverage Class Group where they will be able to access useful resources for their media campaigns. These include key exercises, storytelling guides, templates and the opportunity to ask Jon and other media experts key questions.

Entrepreneneurs will be able to come on stage for a live interview and feedback enabling them to hone their media pitch.

Attendees will leave this session with a far clearer understanding about how media works and how they can interact with journalists to gain publicity for their businesses.

There will be lots of opportunity to ask Jon and others media-related questions specific to your company.

What previous Coverage Class attendees say:
"Amazing event. Jon really knows his stuff! Easy to understand lesson on how to get press, straight from the inside of the media. I feel really ready to make Zola Amour famous now."
Emily Evans, owner of online fashion retailer Zola Amour

“A great insight into the world of journalism in general, but also a highly thought-provoking session in terms of identifying and building a compelling brand story for my business.”
David Green, founder of photography business Shoot Me Now

"I wish I could have mastered these lessons early in life, instead of now in my 40s. Who knows what successes I might have had. This stuff should be taught more widely, like in schools."
Daisy Cresswell, co-founder of digital agency Liberty 842.
