In the wake of the Covid-19 vaccine race in the coming month, one should review how the EU and its member states are dealing with it. On August 14, the EU Commission reached a first agreement on a potential vaccine with pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to purchase a potential vaccine against COVID-19 as well as to donate to lower- and middle-income countries or re-direct to other European countries. In this context, one should also question the role of pharmaceuticals companies on the matter. Members of the Public Health Committee have express concerns on the Commission on efforts to develop, authorise and make safe COVID-19 vaccines available to European citizens.
