Description

Saturday at Cowal Highland Gathering is a real mix of a contemporary family festival and traditional highland gathering.

On the main arena you will be able to watch the finals of the World Highland Dancing Championships, the Cowal Pipe Band Championships (the oldest pipe band competition in the world) and international heavy athletics and traditional wrestling competitions.

On the "top field" the family fun starts at 12 noon when the ceilidh tent and other family entertainment will kick off. This entertainment includes the Ceilidh Tent featuring live performances by Tidelines, Heron Valley, Beinn Lee and The American Rogues, The Performance Arena will have shows from the popular Drakes of Hazzard and Pedal Power Vs Parkour. The latter pits the trial rider against the free runner.

There will also be Story telling by Artie, puppet shows, a come and try cycle track for kids, a silent disco and craft workshops all of which is included in the cost of the admission ticket.

Highland Dancing will begin at approximately 9am on the main arena. (this year the Pre-Premier dancing competition will be on the East Platforms. As a result it will be possible to buy a seat in the East Stand to watch the Pre-Premier competition.)

Pipe Bands will begin at approximately 10am on the main arena

Heavy Athletics competitions will start at 12 noon on the main arena

Traditional Wrestling will commence at 1.30pm on the main arena.

What time is the Gathering on each day?

Thursday 23rd; Gates open at 08.00hrs, competitions begin at 09.00hrs and the event will finish about 18.30hrs.

Friday 24th; Gates open at 08.00hrs, competitions start at 09.00hrs and the event will finish about 18.30hrs.

Saturday 25th; Gates open at 08.00hrs, competitions atart at 09.00hrs and the event will fiinish about 19.00hrs.

The family entertainment and ceilidh tent etc held on the upper field on the Saturday will begin about 12.00 noon and will finish about 17.00hrs.

Do I have to bring my ticket to the event?
Yes, you should print your ticket or have it visible on your mobile/tablet - all tickets booked in advance will be scanned on entry.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Children under 5yrs go free!

Children's ticket is from 5yrs to 16yrs.

Competitors will receive a "Competitors Pass" so do not need an admission ticket. They do need to purchase a seat in one of the stands if they wish a seat however.

Although children are allowed in the ceilidh tent and bar tent, children are not allowed in the immediate vicinity of the bar.

All onsite bars follow the "Challenge 25" guidelies.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking near the event is limited and we recommend using public transport.

What can I bring into the event?

Licensing laws mean it is not allowed to bring your own alcohol to the event and the police and stewards will monitor this.

You are more than welcome to bring your own food to the event if you wish, although, there is a range of caterers onsite if you prefer someone else to do the catering!

Dogs are welcome in the stadium although we do ask that they are kept under the supervision of an adult and are on their lead at all times. You must also have the means of clearing up after them.

It is worth bearing in mind that the event can be very busy, very noisy and (sometimes) hot. If your dog is uncomfortable or not used to such surroundings, they may be happier at home.
