Standardising Tutors
Tutor Standardisation Training is a free CPCAB training day where we work through what’s new in the ever-expanding community of counselling qualifications.
The day features workshops led by our Counselling Qualifications Professionals, setting the standards of our qualifications at the different levels, as well as focus groups exploring topics chosen to enhance and inspire your upcoming year of course delivery.
These meetings offer networking opportunities with colleagues from other centres and to meet the CPCAB team.
What are the aims of CPCAB Standardisation?
- To ensure the minimum assessment standards of a qualification are understood by those making internal assessment decisions on behalf of CPCAB.
- To ensure that assessment standards for the qualification are held over time and across cohorts of candidates.
- To ensure that centre staff involved in assessing qualifications are making decisions that are consistent, safe, ethical and fair for all candidates.
- To recognise the difference and diversity of centre modalities whilst ensuring consistency of the assessment process.
- To promote the importance of meeting together in sharing best practice in assessment and qualification delivery.
Tutor requirements
CPCAB require all tutors to teach to the same consistent standard. That’s why if you are a newly approved tutor delivering a qualification for the first time we require you to attend Standardisation Training before or alongside teaching your first group of candidates.
Afterwards, to keep your knowledge up-to-date, we need you to attend the training at least every other year, and for your colleagues to share their training with you in the intervening years.
Please note that attending Tutor Standardisation Training for a particular qualification does not automatically give you approval to teach that qualification. You’ll need to gain approval by meeting the qualification requirements set out in the CPCAB Guide to Tutor-Assessor Qualifications and Experience.
