Roma Cultural Awareness Training

Building cultural competence in health and wellbeing practice
This one-day CPD-accredited training is designed for professionals working with Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. The course focuses on cultural understanding, health inequalities, and practical tools to support improved health outcomes—particularly around Type 2 Diabetes.
It combines lived experience, research, and frontline insight to equip participants with knowledge and confidence to work more effectively with Roma individuals and families.
What the training covers:
- Who are the Roma? History, diversity, and lived realities
- Local and national health inequalities, including data from Diabetes UK and WHO
- Understanding barriers to healthcare: poverty, discrimination, digital exclusion, trauma
- How to build culturally competent and trauma-informed approaches
- Real case studies and interactive scenarios
- Engagement strategies for inclusive diabetes prevention and support
- Holistic models of care and wellbeing practices relevant to Roma culture
