Free to members of the Stroud Association of Schools only.

**PLEASE NOTE: This is a full day course - you will need to provide your own lunch**

The day will be broken up into two sessions – the morning will focus on English and will be led by Georgie Jacobs and the afternoon will have a maths focus and will be led by Deb Ferris.

English: In this half day session, we will explore the expectations of the National Curriculum for English at KS1. We will develop our subject knowledge in English in order to support children to use and apply the grammar expected for their age group.

By the end of the session, we will:

  • understand the expectations of the National Curriculum for English at KS1;
  • have developed our subject knowledge of English grammar;
  • have an understanding of how to support children to communicate effectively and confidently for a range of audiences and purposes;
  • have an understanding of modelled writing
  • be able to explain the difference between editing and revising and the importance of these skills
  • have reflected upon our current provision;
  • have identified personal next steps for professional development.

Maths: In this half day session, we will develop our subject knowledge of the National Curriculum for mathematics at KS1. We will explore how children develop their understanding of number and counting. We will also look at how children’s understanding of the concepts of number, place value, and calculation develop and how we can support with this. There will also be time to look at how we support pupils through using models and images.

By the end of the session, we will:

  • understand the expectations of the National Curriculum for mathematics at KS1;
  • have developed our subject knowledge of how children learn about number and counting ;
  • have had time to explore the use of different practical resources to support pupils in the development of their mathematical understanding;
  • have reflected upon our current provision;
  • have identified personal next steps for professional development
