Speaker: Mr Mark Barber, Senior Clinical Teacher/ Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Academic Unit of Restorative Dentistry, School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield

Title: An update on occlusion for the GDP

Summary: Occlusion is an important but often misunderstood aspect of restorative dentistry. This lecture will update the general dental practitioner on occlusion in relation to restorative dentistry, in particular in relation to prosthodontic treatment, dental implants, the use of occlusal splints and the Dahl concept.

Aims: To update the general dental practitioner on occlusion in relation to restorative dentistry.

Objectives: By the end of the lecture the practitioner will understand:

  • How occlusion affects both simple and complex fixed prosthetic treatment including implant treatment
  • How to recognise more complex cases
  • When to use certain pieces of equipment, such as a facebow
  • Indications for an occlusal splint
  • The definition and application of the Dahl concept
