About this event

CPD Accredited Supporting Parents Following Baby Loss - Stage 2 (Online Workshop)

Join us for the second part of this online workshop aimed at providing specialist baby loss training for healthcare professionals working in the field of maternity and baby loss and for psychotherapists and counsellors. This workshop will be run by leading professionals experienced in the field of baby loss.

Providing psychological support to parents following the death of a baby or child can be an emotionally charged and challenging aspect of your work; the Petals training programme will enable you to create a safe space for parents to express their feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, shame and anger, helping them to live alongside their grief and feel more able to cope in the world.

Following the success of our specialist baby loss training course for counsellors and other professionals who support parents following baby loss, Petals, together with Bereavement Training International, is now offering an opportunity for further learning.

Stage two of this comprehensive training programme is designed to allow time to explore key themes of this specialist therapeutic intervention in more detail.

Entry Level Requirements:

This stage two training course is open to professionals working in the following areas who have already completed stage one of this programme:

  • Maternity services
  • Perinatal Mental Health Services for bereaved parents
  • Qualified counsellors and psychotherapists (minimum of a level four diploma in counselling)

Subjects covered include:

  • Working with couples: managing the time, hearing each parent's perspective, understanding the relationship, helping the couple to find meaning, integrate this experience, and work towards moving forward together.
  • Pregnancy after loss: consider the challenges of the next pregnancy, how to engage with the new pregnancy whilst grieving, caring for the baby that has died and the baby yet to be born, facing the fear and coping with the anxiety
  • Traumatic Grief: what is traumatic grief and how does it manifest, how does traumatic grief impact the grieving process, and how do we support our clients to process traumatic grief within our own modality of practice?
