About this event

General Activity Description:

A one-day, face-to-face, practical course in which participating teachers will gain an understanding of how to teach the Syllabus Strategies: Focus on Pre-Primary and Primary in Dance syllabi. Learning activities will focus on creating appropriate development exercises to encourage an accurate interpretation of the criteria used in the mark scheme of the examination.

Aims:

The Syllabus Strategies Course is designed to:

  • Look in depth at the philosophy of the work
  • Offer a chance to improve understanding of specific areas within the syllabus, particularly in regards to technical, musical and performance aspects of the work, as identified by examiners during examinations.
  • Reflect on the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances
  • Provide a platform to discuss, explore and develop strategies to strengthen areas of the work
  • Support the creation of development exercises for Pre-Primary and Primary students by defining the requisite skills and knowledge to do so.
  • Attendees at the course will be better able to understand the 'how' of teaching the syllabus, increase knowledge of the assessment criteria and gain insight into how the candidates are generally coping in the examinations.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique/s at each level
  • discuss the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances

Participants will have knowledge and understanding of:

  • approaches to help their learners develop the necessary strength and understanding to achieve the requirements of the assessment criteria in the examination.

Recommended preparation:

  • Knowledge of the exercises and dances of the RAD Pre-Primary and Primary in Dance syllabi.

Ms Agnes Huang

RAD Examiner, CBTS tutor, CPD tutor, Registered Teacher

Ms. Huang started her ballet training when she was seven. She obtained her Advanced Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance and Advanced Certificate from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in 1978 and 1983 respectively. Ms. Huang furthered her ballet studies in London and Cannes. She was highly commended in the Teacher’s Diploma Examination of the Royal Academy of Dance in 1985.

Since 2003, Ms. Huang has been appointed as the Grades Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She traveled to various countries around the world as an Examiner. She has examined in Thailand, Mexico, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Canada, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Greece.

In 2007, Ms. Huang became a Tutor for the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies by the Royal Academy of Dance. In 2012, Ms. Huang is appointed as tutor for the new Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses by RAD.
