The accessibility of the internet has many advantages, but also comes with downsides. We'll be looking at how interest can become addiction.

About this event

Together we will look at the impact of the internet and its accessibility to so many people. The webinar will help you learn how interest can become addiction and the impact this can have on a persons’ life. Typical behaviours and thought processes will be considered.

Aims of Webinar:

1. Develop a greater knowledge of online addiction

2. Provide a safe and confidential space to discuss intimate details from clinical practice

3. Consider impact of cognitive distortion and splitting of self in addiction

4. Review case examples within a safe group setting

5. Provide resources for further self-study

Specific learning outcomes to change practice:

1. Gain skills to assess addictive patterns, typical thoughts and role of fantasy.

2. Identify risk and therapeutic resources to help clients contain behaviour.

3. Explore and expand the meaning behind the relational needs met by addiction.

4. Develop ways to work with therapeutic honest to improve sexual relationships.

Resources to be provided:-

1. Reference list of specific reading and research

2. Copy of sexual addictive cycle handout

3. Copy of cognitive distortion handout

4. PowerPoint slides to support learning of strategies to help changes.

The morning will look at addictive cycle patterns, the theory of causes of sexual addiction and cognitive distortions and the impact they have on permission.

After lunch we will look at understanding relational needs to be met beyond addiction and then stopping and changing behaviour and the resources to help.

Sally Openshaw is a senior, accredited sexual and relationship therapist and supervisor member of COSRT. She has a done additional training in Sexual addiction and will bring her experiences from this, and her client work into the discussions on the day
