About this event

This year, Karina H Maynard is leading a Provocations series to engage students in optional creative projects. The provocations will increase awareness and engagement with topics relating to Global History, Decolonisation and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Students will benefit from further development of how they engage with the creative process through self-exploration and new perspectives on self-identity, potential and societal impact.

To accompany these Provocations, teachers will have a unique opportunity to attend a series of uplifting CPD training days and online training webinars to discuss the provocation themes and explore empowering approaches to supporting students in self-exploratory creative processes.

This webinar provides teachers with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to support students in project work for the ‘Global History’ and ‘Visionary Impact’ Provocation Project.

It will centre two important aspects of the Provocations Projects:

Firstly, how to guide students in learning about underrepresented groups in mainstream creative history. Teachers will explore the meaning of representation, including protected characteristics and other marginalised groups in mainstream Western cultural narratives.

It is recommended that teachers read the ‘What representation means to arts educators at this moment in time’ blog post and bring topics they would like to explore relating to their own creative disciplines and realm of organisational responsibility.

The second aspect of the webinar will look at how to empower students to realise the impact they can make through creativity. Teachers will be invited to take part in an exercise to help define their vision for a more equitable, inclusive and diverse future.

Known for facilitating non-judgmental and supportive spaces, Karina H Maynard will facilitate CPD training for teachers to ask questions and develop their own roadmaps to guide anti-oppressive, reflective practice. The CPD training will centre approaches and skills to understanding the complexities and challenges of EDI in practice. This is a unique CPD training webinar, designed to inspire the ongoing professional development and syllabus enrichment that supports the needs of creative students.

• Develop confidence in facilitating diverse learning experiences

• Explore why the creative contributions and influence of underrepresented groups have been minimised and/or omitted from education

• Learn approaches that empower students to develop positive self-identity, respect for others and belief in their ability to make a positive impact

Teachers and professionals with responsibility for ensuring a positive, inclusive and engaging experience for diverse students studying for UAL Awarding Body qualifications.

All levels of expertise and specialism are welcome.

About the facilitator

Karina H Maynard

Karina H Maynard is a cultural curator, educator and producer who specialises in creativity, education and culture.

Her work explores themes at the intersections of history, identity, vision and creativity. She examines the evolution of multicultural societies, the social impetus for transformative cultural movements and creative work for positive social and environmental impact.

Karina curates exhibition programmes and cultural events that help museums and institutions to engage young, creative and diverse audiences through performances, talks, films and creative commissions by young and emerging artists. She produces live shows and content highlighting the cultural influence of underrepresented people in the mainstream.

She facilitates training that contextualises contemporary challenges and provides professionals with the tools to develop reflective and critical skills to fuel visionary practice.

Supporting the development of young people is a key priority. Karina works with the educational and performing arts sector to improve the engagement and experience of young people.
