Event description

Description

We hope you're having a great Summer thus far. Announing the first of your Autumn 2019 CIPD Events.

Andrew Gibbons will hit the question ‘CPD: What’s in it for me?’ head on. He will use his own practical experience to explain and illustrate what you personally can get out of genuinely managing your own development.

Andrew believes that most ‘training’ per se can at times be a complete waste of time and money, and that despite all the talk, there is little evidence of organisations or individuals making the most of where we learn best and most – at work!!

Further, Andrew feels that any true professional is an “active learner”, not a “passive member of a cosy club of people” who passed exams decades ago, pay their subs and want to be left alone!

Andrew will bring his hand-written learning log with him – all five lever arch files, more than 32 years on, now a million words and growing. He will also give a unique insight of how you can take low or no cost actions to work on your own, unique and individual development needs.

Taking the theme that ‘Learning should be part of the work process and not an interruption’ – he will, in a very interactive way explore what this simple yet so challenging statement means in practice – and for the bottom line!

For all his fierce belief in the value of taking true responsibility for our own learning, Andrew has not lost his sense of humour and a feature of all his many events is a lot of laughter.

Andrew will outline the simple ways organisations can change focus to get massively more value from a move away from expensive, administratively convenient courses, and towards a development approach that hits real needs, truly managing talent, keeping more key people longer, and growing a reputation that attracts the best!!

Andrew has been ‘helping people to learn’ for over 37 years. He now works almost entirely with small units within organisation, and coaching people with the desire to develop and realise potential. His website www.andrewgibbons.co.uk has a lot of free downloads – see the link to www.learningfromwork.com for more on and around the evening's topic.
