The CQI Construction Special Interest Group is pleased to invite you to its event, Quality: turning risk into opportunity.

Description:

On Tuesday 25th September, the Construction Special Interest Group of the Chartered Quality Institute will present aspects of how quality is synonymous with risk, the impact this can have for our Clients and knowledge sharing approaches to reduce quality risks in the construction process.

This topic relates to the governance aspect of the CQI Competency Framework helping to ensure all stakeholder requirements can be met but also driving improvement by enabling more efficient and effective ways of working.

Attendees will gain an insight into the personal experiences and lessons learned by those involved in implementing collaborative initiatives.

There will be refreshments and an opportunity for networking between sessions.

Speakers:

The event will be introduced and hosted by Jon Adshead, Interim Chair of the CQI Construction Special Interest Group. Jon is an Operations Director for Business Improvement in the Mace construction business.

Nigel Ostime: is a Delivery Director at Hawkins\Brown Architects, chair of the RIBA Client Liaison Group and co-chair of the Housing Forum’s working group for Stopping Building Failures.

Dr Gregor Harvie: is an architect and co-founder of Designing Buildings Wiki, a knowledge sharing platform for the construction industry used by 4 million people a year.

Canute Simpson: is a Certified Profession Facilitator with 15 years facilitation experience. He is a Chartered Builder with 10 years site management experience and was a Practice Manager at the CIOB, and Director of Business Improvement at Constructing Excellence. Canute is currently working in Mace Business School.

Andy Thurgood: is a Management Systems Tutor, training internationally on quality, environmental, and occupational health & safety for BSI. Prior to this role, he worked as an Assessor/Auditor for BSI, with a large portfolio of construction related clients.

Dan Keeling: is a Consultant Engineer, previously Head of Quality and NEC Supervisor for Crossrail and Head of Quality for HS1. Dan is a Fellow of the CQI and has worked in quality on major projects for the past 30 years.

Chris Doran: representing Weightmans LLP - a nationally recognised law practice providing advice on all aspects of construction risk management from procurement to completion, looking at Legal and Insurance implications of poor Quality.

Tom Barton: is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He has over 40 years’ experience working with major contractors working on some significant projects mainly in the UK but also overseas. Tom is the chair of the Get It Right Initiative.

Helen Soulou: is a Programme Quality Leader supporting all of Heathrow's construction Programmes in the early stages of design as a construction project process expert. Helen is a Fellow of the CQI with an interest in the Cost of Quality model and how it can be applied to the Construction industry.

After the event the CQI will send a request for feedback to the email address used to register for a ticket for this event. We will use this anonymous feedback to improve our events. A follow up email may be sent one week after the event. On arrival at a branch event, attendees are asked to sign in. After the event the sign in sheet is used to update Eventbrite with attendance by either a branch volunteer or the Professional Networks team. The sign in sheet is held for up to one month from the date of the event.
