Event description

Description

Everybody works in a system and there are always consequences.

When people are set numerical performance targets, they have three choices:

  1. They can fiddle or even invent the numbers – and they do
  2. They can distort or try to beat the system – and they do
  3. They can improve the system and processes – which they seldom do or are allowed to do

Targets always seem to on management’s agenda. Are they really as effective as is thought? This event will explore your experience with targets and issues that you have encountered. We will start by posing the following opening question to prompt your questions:

What questions would you have liked to ask that hugely influential management and quality guru the late Dr W Edwards Deming about targets, if he were still alive?

We will share further insights of other consistent work that the Deming SIG has brought together in a Model of Sustainable Organisation (MoSO). In addition we will share some of our personal insights from our collaboration co-authoring the e-book Simply Manage.

Finally, stimulated by the opening question and the input, the floor will be thrown open and an open conversation encouraged in the style, albeit briefly, of a World or Knowledge Café.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore and gain insights into each other’s quality challenges
  • Discover more on human motivation
  • Learn about Deming’s body of management and quality knowledge
  • Understand MoSO the Deming SIG’s Deming++ model
  • Learn about the eBook Simply Manage and the Simply Manage Star®
