Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

People in the community, 10 years old plus, are invited to work in groups and participate in this workshop to look into how 3D printing can be used to solve local problems while exploring issues such as mobility and sustainability using local manufacturing.

We want to start by creating a 'problem bank' and everybody in the community is invited to submit ‘problems’ with possible 3D printed solution to library.information@visionrcl.org.uk. Let us know in what category of the following ones your 'problem' fits in please:

  • Domestic: things in the home that could be repaired for which spare parts are difficult to source e.g. shower curtain hook

  • Mobility: problems which involve people with limited mobility and for which a device or gadget could help e.g prosthetic hand

  • Open: where people can submit any other kind of problem.

Before the workshop, a small selection of 'problems' will be chosen from each category.

During the workshop you will then select a problem from one category and will attempt to design a solution and a prototype 3D model will be produced using tinkerCAD. You will also will be introduced to other Lab Central facilities, including the 3D printer.

The session will close with a show and tell, where participants present their design.
