WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BE DOING?
In this three‑hour workshop, you will learn the essential techniques for handling and snipping mosaic tiles. You’ll then choose or design a mosaic layout—either selecting from our available pattern options or collaborating with me to bring your own idea to life. You’ll work with a selection of high-quality tiles: Winckleman ceramic tiles sourced from the outskirts of France, unglazed Cinca ceramic from Portugal, Vitreous glass tiles, and iridescent glass tiles featuring mother-of-pearl shine or delicate flecks of gold and copper detail.
Once your design is complete, you’ll use a water-soluble PVA glue to adhere the tiles. That glued mosaic will need to set for at least 24 hours at home before moving on to the next step.
Next, you’ll grout your piece using everything included in your take‑home kit: a mask, gloves, pre‑measured grout, and clear instructions on safe mixing and application. Grouting is only required on the top surface—there’s no need to grout the underside, though it may become slightly messy in the process (it can simply be wiped clean). Be sure to remove all excess grout with a cloth and dispose of any waste water outdoors—not down your household sink.
After applying the grout, leave your coaster to set overnight. Finally, once it has cured for another 24 hours, you can affix the pre‑cut round self‑adhesive cork board backing to give your coaster a polished, professional finish.
By the end of this process, you’ll have created a unique and beautifully crafted mosaic coaster...
We’ll be announcing more workshops soon—see below of what else can be made when moasicing. Festive workshop coming soon this holiday season...
