CRAFT FOR CRAFT SAKE: BARGELLO/CATHEDRAL PATCHWORK/STAINED GLASS PATCHWORK
Wed, 26 Apr 2017, 10:00 – Wed, 24 May 2017, 12:00 BST
This course is for individuals interested in using the medium of textiles for self-expression and who value the opportunity to share design ideas with like-minded enthusiasts.
You will choose from one of three options;
Bargello takes its name from a series of chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence which have a ‘flame stich’ pattern. You will learn how to produce uniform upright flat stiches laid in a mathematical pattern on canvas to create motifs and original designs.
Cathedral Patchwork: churches and cathedrals have long been an inspiration for art. You will learn how to select and use appropriate materials to create the translucent effect of glass and how to use heavier fabrics to create the effect of lead frames to produce stunning pieces of patchwork work which can be used to make cushion covers or curtains.
Stained Glass Patchwork is similar to Cathedral Patchwork in that you are using fabrics to create the illusion of stained glass but without the addition of the frames. Again, your pieces of patchwork can be used to create dazzling and original textiles for the home.
You shall be assessed through a variety of activities and tasks and your finished artefacts. No skills or experience are necessary, just a willingness to learn.
This is a non- accredited course however upon completion you shall receive a Certificate of Achievement.
Course duration: Wednesday 10-12pm (5 weeks)
Course fee: £50.00
You may be entitled to concessions for which proof of any income-based benefits must be provided at the time of enrolment.
