Presented by CelebrAsia in collaboration with the London Filipino Centre. Gain a fresh perspective on the script’s ancient connections and its survival through colonisation.
This one-hour masterclass workshop introduces audiences to Baybayin, the ancient script of the Philippines, through the fresh lens of Anatomya ng Baybayin (Anatomy of Baybayin, Leyson 2019). Far from the usual textbook treatment, this session reveals a narrative of writing that has never been heard before.
Understand the 4 Simple Rules of Baybayin and learn the foundational forms and strokes for proper writing. Write your own name (or favourite inspiring word) in Baybayin on natural craft paper, beautifully framed so you can proudly hang it in your home.
The workshop will be headed by John NL Leyson, a graduate of Fine Arts, Major in Visual Communication from the University of the Philippines–Diliman. He is a pioneer of Baybayin advocacy in Manila and London, and currently serves as President of Baybayin Buhayin, Inc., the premier Baybayin advocacy established in 2010.
