Event description

Description

Learn a new craft (or 7), meet like-minded people, and stay in a luxury yurt or tipi in the beautiful, wooded surroundings of Woodland Tipi and Yurt Holidays, set within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in Herefordshire.
http://www.woodlandtipis.co.uk/tipis-and-yurts/

Aswell as relaxing, and enjoying all the facilities the site has to offer (including a hot tub), you will have, on site, a choice of 7 different crafts to try your hand at over the weekend.

Our experienced craftspeople will be running workshops involving metal, wood, clay, wool, willow, recycled materials, and more.

No prior experience is needed - learn something completely new, have a go at all of them, or concentrate on 1 or 2, or develop a skill if you already do have some experience.. All tools will be provided.

THE WORKSHOPS:

WILLOW WEAVING:
'Wonders Of Willow' will be offering workshops in weaving frame baskets, these simple rustic baskets are a joy to make and the finished result are satisfying and functional.

GREEN WOODWORKING:
Carve a spatula, butter knife, gypsy flower, or clothes peg, using traditional skills, and hand tools, and have a go cleaving, using a shave horse and a pole-lathe, with Turnham Green Wood.

BLACKSMITHING:
Forge a small object such as a hook or bottle opener using traditional forging techniques with experienced blacksmith, Jenny Cole. Using local charcoal and a hand powered forge you will learn a number of forging techniques and be able to make your own simple piece of work to take home. Larger, more complex pieces can be made if booked before the event.

BEATEN COPPER:
Dan from Hammered will be helping you make small beaten copper objects, and/or jewellery, using recycled copper

NEEDLE FELTING:
"Come experience and explore the qualities and traditional uses of raw and processed sheep fibre, through the medium of needle felting and peg loom weaving.
I will have some fleece from my own ovine lawn mowers as well as some commercially processed fibres for you to play with.
We will be working on some small independent pieces as well as having a go at some integrated work."

POTTERY:
PLAY WITH CLAY- with Labyrinth arts -
This short drop-in workshop is a fun and exciting experience.
Participants can use a potters wheel to throw clay and mould it
gently into a pot. Great results guaranteed! Come and play with
some clay and make what ever your heart desires. A fantastic
sensory experience, for all ages.

BUG-MAKING:
Tinkan Designs - A fun and unique metalworking workshop, where you'll make a 'Nozbug' using scrap metal, and recycled plastic components, riveted together with pop rivets.

There will be 10 hours of potential crafting time -
Time to try them all, or just concentrate on 1 or 2, it's up to you!
