Workshop Overview

On 5 December, World Turkish Coffee Day offers a moment to honour a tradition inscribed by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. More than a drink, Turkish coffee embodies centuries of ritual, memory, and social exchange. Guided by Ayşe Kapusuz, this workshop unfolds that heritage through taste, story, and ceremony, inviting participants to experience a cultural legacy that continues to shape conversations across generations. You will:

  • Explore the history and cultural significance of Turkish coffee with engaging visuals.
  • Learn the art of brewing coffee in a traditional cezve pot, step by step.
  • Taste and compare three distinctive styles of Turkish coffee: Traditional, Coquettish, and Tatar.
  • Enjoy Turkish delights carefully paired to complement each brew.
  • Experience the rituals and symbolism that make Turkish coffee more than just a drink—it’s a way of connecting and sharing.

The highlight of the evening will be hands-on practice, where you’ll prepare your own Turkish coffee under expert guidance. By the end, you will leave with practical brewing skills, a deeper appreciation of coffee’s role in Turkish culture, and memories of celebrating International Coffee Day in a truly authentic way.

Assessment / Outcome

Participants will receive personalized feedback throughout the workshop to refine their brewing techniques and cultural understanding. By the end of the session, you will have learned how to prepare three distinct types of Turkish coffee and gained practical skills for recreating them at home.

This experience will serve as both a cultural immersion and a tangible skill set, enabling you to bring the taste and ritual of Turkish coffee into your everyday life. Additionally, you will leave with a deeper appreciation of the traditions and significance of coffee within Turkish culture.
