Event description

Description

Exclusively for LCW the exhibition WOOD - The Living Material explores the work of six artists and craftsmen using wood to handcraft contemporary pieces that traverse function, art and design.

This panel discussion will give an insight in to the craftsmanship and the process that each of the makers experience when producing their work. Participating in the talk are Exhibiting craftsmen : Ted Jefferis, Wycliffe Stutchbury, Luke Hope, Max Bainbridge, Abigail Booth and Jane Crisp.

Through looking at the wider nature of practice in wood, the work on display examines the maker’s relationship to material and landscape; in particular that of the British tree and the way the forest and woodlands continue to influence artists and craftsmen working in the UK today. From furniture, to vessels, sculpture and textiles, the exhibition explores how wood is transformed into objects that resonate with the deep relationship of people to the land. With an emphasis on skill and craftsmanship, the exhibition brings to life narratives of the natural and looks at how makers today are choosing to work with a material that roots them in their natural landscape.
