Event description

Description

We're delighted to welcome back to Oxford ukulele superstars Sarah Maisel and Craig Chee. They'll be playing a gig for us on the evening of Saturday 21st October, supported by acoustic uke duo The Hedge Inspectors. There will then be three WORKSHOPS available on Sunday 22nd October.

There are three ticket types:

  • Gig ticket (£10)
  • James Agg Bass Workshop Ticket (£12)
  • Sarah and Craig Workshop Ticket (£25, includes both their workshops)

The schedule is:

GIG, SATURDAY 21st OCTOBER
7.30pm - Doors open
8pm - The Hedge Inspectors
9pm - Craig Chee, Sarah Maisel

WORKSHOPS, SUNDAY 22nd OCTOBER
1pm - 2pm: James Agg bass workshop.
Whether you have a bass ukulele, bass guitar or double bass, this workshop will help you up your bass game. This workshop is pitched at those with some prior bass experience or at least a basic understanding in music, for example the notes in the scale, 1st, 3rds, 5ths etc. If you don't have your own bass but would like to do this workshop, please let us know, we can probably borrow some instruments.

2.30pm - 3.30pm: Sarah Maisel, Introduction to Jazz Ukulele
Ever been intimidated by jazz? Don't worry, this class will be a lot of fun as we go through some popular jazz standards and progressions. We'll show you how easy (or hard) you can make these tunes. This workshop is suitable for confident beginners to intermediate players. You must be able to play all of your basic chords in order to get the most out of this class.

4pm - 5pm: Craig Chee, Tips & Tricks
Ever wondered how the pros add those embellishments? Well this is the class for you. Craig will take you through different progressions and various picking exercises to get your playing to the next level. You'll be learning some of the tricks that even he uses.

WHERE, WHAT, HOW?
The gig and workshops will all be taking place at the East Oxford Community Centre. The gig will be in the louge where there is a very reasonably priced bar and the workshops in the main hall. There will be tea and coffee (and possibly biscuits if you're good) available at the workshops.

There is parking at the nearby Union Street car park behind Tesco on the Cowley Road.
