Event description

Description

Tutored by Pete Boardman, this workshop will introduce you to the identifying craneflies using draft keys due to be published in a forthcoming British cranefly book. You will be working with set museum specimens and microscopes, enabling you to go further with identification than can be achieved in the field for many species. You are welcome to bring along your own specimens for identification / checking.

This workshop complements an earlier field identification day held on 15th June 2018:

Pete Boardman is an entomologist and ecologist whose specialisms include tipulids (craneflies). He managed a succession of Field Studies Councils projects delivering training in ID and survey skills at all levels from beginner to expert, latterly concentrating on the ‘uncharismatic’ groups including soil fauna. Pete now works as an entomologist in Natural England's field unit.
