Crate to Plate is an indoor, vertical farming business, which uses hydroponic technology (which involves growing plants in nutrient-rich water solutions instead of soil) to grow fresh lettuces, leafy greens, herbs, and mushrooms from its farms in London.
While regenerative farmers are looking to tackle the environmental issues caused by industrial farming by returning to the way we used to do things, Crate to Plate are addressing the same issues using technology that wouldn't have been available to our ancestors.
They grow produce indoors in a controlled environment, using zero pesticides, 95% less water than traditional farming methods, and a fraction of the land. Their mission is to bring sustainable, nutrient-dense, local food production to the UK. They supply restaurants and consumers across London with consistently high quality all year round – reducing reliance on imported food.
In essence, They believe that people should eat better quality, fresher, tastier food, with a lower environmental impact.
