This is a half day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.
This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Change, Grow Live and West Sussex County Council.
This course will enable learners to improve their understanding of how mental health issues and substance use can impact on young people (aged 16 – 25), how these dual issues might manifest themselves, and explore skills in working effectively with young people who experience both issues. Participants will explore definitions used in substance mis/use and mental health, and consider the young person’s experience. Participants will consider effective screening and signposting on to relevant services.
- Defining dual diagnosis – definitions, attitudes & the young person’s experience
- Identifying dual diagnosis - ‘Signs and symptoms’?
- Identify and respond more effectively to young people experiencing both mental health and substance use issues
