This is a two day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.
This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Grassroots Suicide Prevention, YMCA Downslink Group, West Sussex County Council, West Sussex CCGs, and Heath Education England.
What is Youth MHFA?
Youth MHFA offers an internationally recognised course designed especially for those people that teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 8 to 18 years.
Participants learn how to provide information, tools and techniques to promote a young persons mental and emotional well-being and to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress.
What will I learn on a Youth MHFA course?
The aims of Youth MHFA are to enable participants to:
- Gain a more in-depth understanding of some of the common mental health issues affecting young people, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders and psychosis
- Work more effectively with young people living with mental health issues
- Identify stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
- Support young people with a mental health issue and relate to their experiences
How will I learn?
The Youth MHFA consists of two full days.
You’ll receive a Youth MHFA manual that you can take away with you at the end of the course and a certificate from MHFA England.
Getting to the Venue
The nearest railway station is Crawley and this is a 3 minute walk away. Parking is available nearby but there is a cost as it is metered.

The course runs from 9.30 - 5pm both days:

- Tuesday 24th January 2017
Tea and coffee will be provided during break times in the morning and afternoon. Please note that you will need to bring your own lunch or, alternatively, there is a cafe downstairs in the library or a 5 minute walk into the main town centre to all cafes/restaurants.
Your £30 registration fee for this course helps towards the additional venue and refreshment costs. This is a non-refundable deposit
Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.

We aim to promote good mental health through the provision of high quality services and through campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and understanding.
Our services support young people, adults, older adults, carers and families affected by mental health problems.
