About this event

Join us for a captivating journey through time as we celebrate the incredible history of Cray Wanderers Football Club, the oldest football club in London and Kent. Founded amidst the construction of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway in the late 1850s, Cray Wanderers has grown from humble beginnings in St Mary Cray to a club with a rich and resilient legacy, now based in Chislehurst.

This special event will explore the club’s evolution—from early matches beneath the railway viaducts and support from local paper mills, to its golden eras in the Kent and London Leagues, and its modern-day triumphs in the Isthmian League. Discover how the club survived adversity, including the loss of its ground in the 1930s, and how community efforts and passionate leadership kept the Wands alive.

Jerry DOWLEN, a long-time supporter and club historian, together with Mark HUNT, club committee member, will provide this history of Cray Wanderers FC 'the Wands', at what is also an exciting time for the future of this local football club.
