Create & Connect: An Art Psychotherapy Group for Teenagers Looking to Build Confidence and Connection

This one-off creative session is for teenagers aged 16–18 who want a supportive and expressive space to explore thoughts and feelings. Using art and gentle conversation, we’ll help young people connect with themselves and each other in a setting that feels safe, relaxed, and pressure-free. Being part of a therapeutic group offers a unique chance to connect with others in a more thoughtful, reflective way—and to discover new ways of understanding and expressing yourself. It can also be a powerful way to recognise how universal some of your experiences are, and to learn from others in a way that’s not always possible in everyday life.

Facilitated by two qualified child and adolescent psychotherapists, and with a maximum of 6 participants, this group is designed to support emotional expression, build social confidence, and encourage creative self-exploration. Whether you're a teen curious about therapy or a parent looking for meaningful, creative support, this session offers a chance to experience how art therapy can help. No prior art experience is needed - we'll be there to guide and support you throughout.

It’s a great opportunity to dip a toe in and see what being part of a therapeutic group feels like—without any long-term commitment. Expect a welcoming, non-judgemental space where sharing is always optional and every emotion is welcome. Join us at The Blue Door Practice in Fitzroy Square for an afternoon of creativity, reflection, and connection.

If you have any questions or would appreciate a conversation, please do get in contact. For those who find the experience helpful, there will be an opportunity to join an ongoing art therapy group.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this group for?

This is a group for adolescents aged 16 - 18 who are looking for community, connection, and a safe space for self-reflection. It’s for anyone who wants to explore their inner world in a safe way and experience the power of doing this with other like-minded peers.

Is this therapy?

It’s not the same as 1-to-1 therapy, but the group is therapeutic in nature. It’s best suited to young people who are feeling generally stable, even if they’re struggling with anxiety—if more intensive support is needed, we’re happy to help guide you toward the right kind of care.

Will I be forced to open up if I don't want to?

You can expect a welcoming and supportive space where you're free to share as much or as little as you want. It’s about being listened to, listening to others, and experiencing the unique power of being part of a group where it's safe to show up exactly as you are.

What will we do in the group?

We’ll guide you through art therapy exercises, reflection, and calming practices like meditation. It’s a space to explore thoughts and feelings through creativity and group conversation.

I'm neurodivergent, can I come?

Yes, this group is a welcome space for everyone. Anxiety can be a common experience for many individuals with forms of neurodivergence such as autism or ADHD. Finding a way to connect with others can also feel hard sometimes. This is a place for you to be yourself.

I'm a parent, can I stay with my child?

This group is for children to attend independently. We do have a waiting room which parents can wait in if you or your child would like you to stay close by. Due to the duration of the session we recommend dropping your child off and coming back to collect them.

Can siblings attend?

We understand the importance of sibling relationships; however, this experience is designed to support each child in building wider social connections and developing independently. Attending individually encourages confidence, new friendships, and a sense of self.

Do I need to be confident at art?

This is a pressure-free space to explore and express your creativity. No skill level is required, we simply hope you enjoy the process of making it.
