About this event

Join Are You Mad for a workshops exploring the potential of recycled plastics. You’ll learn how to make combs, incense holders and other products using household PP plastic waste.

SLOT 1: 4.30 pm - 6:00 pm

SLOT 2: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

In these workshops, we'll talk about the benefits of creating from waste, share ideas on how to design with circularity in mind, and open a conversation about recycling systems — what’s working, what’s not, and what needs to change.

Everyone will leave with a few finished products made from materials that would’ve otherwise been thrown away.

These workshops are part of Alterist X Wings of Desire Event, a full-day celebration of creativity and regeneration taking place at Hackney Baths. Alongside lace-making, you’ll find upcycled fashion, live customisations, art from reclaimed materials, and a soundtrack from Wings of Desire taking us into the night.

Expect:

– Shop upcycled fashion

– Explore artworks made from reclaimed materials

– Bring a piece from your wardrobe to get customised live

– Hands-on workshops with London Lace Club, Trash Club & ARE YOU MAD

– Vegan food from Bath House Kitchen & Soulfull

– Live DJs + music all day in the garden, curated by Wings of Desire

Alterist is an upcycle fashion platform that unites a community of upcycled fashion designers, who are using creativity to drive change, transform fashion culture and make a positive impact on our planet. Shop online @ alterist.com, follow us on IG @alteristmarketplace.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming pre-loved clothing and materials into new, higher-quality products. Think of it as fashion’s creative rebellion, less landfill, more creativity.

Why is upcycling important?

Over 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion industry. Upcycling reduces the demand for new clothing production, which is where 70% of emissions occur. It’s one of the most effective ways to reduce fashion’s environmental footprint + you can support independent designers.

Can I get something custom made?

Yes! Some designers here offer customisation or made-to-order options. Ask our staff
