About this Event
Create your own bespoke handmade incense holders in clay. Make a selection of up to 3 incense bases in a choice of colours of white, terracotta or Stone grey, exploring surface and texture using natural forms as design inspiration and if you wish personalising with letters (available as an add on).
This online zoom workshop will be hosted by Rebecca May , a Designer-Maker who specialises in ceramics with over 10 years experience as a designer, maker and craft educator. Rebecca is also joint founder and partner at the Creative Practice May Wild Studio.
Group Zoom - Jan 27th 2021 - 7.30pm
During the 1 hour zoom group workshop, you will be guided through clear making demonstrations, you will learn a selection of making, surface design and finishing techniques, alongside making yourself. Rebecca will advice and answer any questions you may have through the zoom workshop. The workshop experience will be a relaxed and friendly approach, a chance to explore, play and experiment with the clay material and making process, a relaxed learning experience, and an opportunity to learn new creative skills you can carry on using and developing after the workshop finishes.

Prior to the Zoom workshop, A maker box with everything you will need for the workshop & to make the handmade decorations will be posted to you.
In the box:
- Clay in white and terracotta ( this is an air dry clay, suitable to dry hard overnight or over cook.)
- roller
-twine
-sponge
-cutting tool/round steel cutter
- wooden tool
- gift envelope x 2
- natural twine 1.5mm
- pointed wooden tool - for holes
- selection of collected natural forms - acorn/leaves/herbs
You will need to provide:
- A flat surface/table to work on.
- Apron optional.
- One or two boards (different colour clay for each board if preferred) Size A4, this could be a wooden or plastic chopping board, a sheet of card or old thick magazine will also work.
- a small cup of water
- natural forms - leaves, sticks, acorns, flowers, stones, feel free to collect any natural forms you would like to use as a surface texture. We also provide a small selection in the maker box.
- shape cutters if you have them.
- we will demonstrate a make your own cutter from re-using an existing plastic object, please bring a plain plastic water bottle or plastic small yogurt/cream/cottage cheese pot, any cylindrical plastic container of approx 4-6cm diameter will work (empty and clean).
- scissors
- wipes or cloth to clean hands and utensils
* There is an option to add to your maker box. If you would like to letter personalise your decorations please add on the Alphabet laser cut letter set at the order/pay stage. Price £3.75
The letters are lasercut wood. A set is the full alphabet and they can be reused again.
