* This event is for Loughborough University students only*
This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from experts and experience creating a tamarind batik textile firsthand. You will have the opportunity to produce a Tamarind Batik, a unique and environmentally friendly textile resist technique that uses tamarind seed powder to create colourful, decorative patterns. No prior experience needed.
In this creative workshop, you will:
- Learn how to pattern textiles using natural pastes and dyes made from tamarind seed powder.
- Design and create your own batik tote bag or scarf to take home.
- Be guided by expert Indonesian artists and academics throughout the process.
What’s included:
- All materials required to create your own handmade textile: tote bag or scarf
- Expert instruction
A talk and demonstration by Indonesian artists and academics is taking place earlier in the day from 10am to 12pm. If you wish to attend the talk then please book for this separately. You do not need to attend the talk in order to participate in the workshop.
