About this Event

Come and join us at this special event, which forms part of The Sessions at Regent's Place, where we will discuss the topic of 'Creating a Career That Works For You' with our amazing panel.

Get ready to feel inspired and ready to take your business to the next level.

With more people feeling unsatisfied with their 'day job', there has been a surge in people wanting to take control of their careers and create a life that works for them. Our wonderful panel have done just that and have created successful businesses from nothing, dared to go at it alone, and are living a life that works for them.

We’re here to open up the conversation between freelancers so that they no longer feel alone and unsupported, and to share tips and tricks to maintain a healthy and positive mindset so that freelancers are able to thrive in the unpredictable world of 'the freelance life'.

Who's on our panel?

Steve Munroe

After 10 years of working for the United Nations from Uzbekistan to Cambodia to Sudan, Steve Munroe made the ultimate sacrifice and moved to Bali…where his family’s one year sabbatical turned into a 9 year stay. There is founded Hubud, the world’s first destination workplace where thousands of people have come to create more meaningful careers for themselves. Currently he works for British Land/Storey exploring how to create vibrant communities at scale, and still produces CU Asia, Asia Pacific’s largest coworking conference so he has an annual excuse to escape the London winter.

Abubaker Salim

Having recently been selected as one of BAFTAs Breakthrough Brits, Abubakar Salim will soon be seen starring in the coveted role of 'Father' in Ridley Scott's 10 part sci-fi drama series RAISED BY WOLVES, which has recently finished shooting in South Africa. This highly anticipated TNT series revolves around two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet.

In 2018, Salim was nominated for a British Academy Games Award for Best Performer for his role as the main protagonist Bayek on Ubisoft’s ASSASSIN’S CREED ORIGINS.

On British television, Salim starred in the period drama JAMESTOWN as well as a recurring role in the Sam Mendes produced BBC/Amazon series INFORMER. He also played a leading role in the mini-series FORTITUDE for Sky opposite Dennis Quaid.

His other credits include BLACK MIRROR, the Netflix/Canal Plus drama series SPOTLESS, and Jonah in the BBC adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s THE CUCKOO’S CALLING.

Lorna Gibson

Lorna is an illustrator who goes by the name of Toots Design. Since leaving her graduate job ten years ago, she has travelled overseas teaching skiing and spent her long winter evenings developing her career as an illustrator. She’s now focusing full time on writing and illustrating children’s books. Lorna strongly believes that you can make the greatest difference to the world by finding and doing the thing that makes you the happiest, even if that requires numerous stumbles along the way.
