Creating a Legal Organisation for your Community Group
By The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust
Online event
Overview
A free BBOWT Community Network event
The BBOWT Community Network and CAG Oxfordshire have created this online skill sharing session for groups that are community-led, exist to create social or environmental impact, and operate not for private profit.
Many community groups start informally, but as your activities grow you may find yourselves needing to register your group as a legal organisation. This could be for a number of reasons including wanting to access a wider range of funding, enter into contracts (such as a lease agreement), employ staff and limit the liability of your committee members.
This session will cover:
- Why set up a legal organisation for your community group – benefits and drawbacks
- Overview of the most common legal forms for community groups and how they differ
- What charitable status means, and its pros and cons
- How to register your chosen legal organisation
There will be time for questions and discussions.
