Event description

Description

Can you help create quality assurance mechanisms that will support the newly developed learning and assessment provision standards for people involved in humanitarian action?

Pearson has been working with a number of humanitarian organisations to explore the challenges relating to education, training and professional development in the humanitarian sector. This collaboration has led to the development of a globally applicable system that will capture, recognise and certify the skills, learning and development of aid workers (including volunteers) to improve service effectiveness to the most vulnerable.
At the beginning of 2017 Pearson joined forces with
Bioforce and RedR, to develop the quality assurance mechanisms that will support the standards for learning and assessment providers in the humanitarian sector. Your shared experiences and ideas to inform the development work will be extremely valuable to us shaping a pilot in 2018.

Our drafting process is underway. Input from you will be highly valued and is crucial at this stage to ensure that the quality assurance mechanisms are appropriate, workable and robust.

Please join us for a workshop in Amman Jordan, Wednesday 29th November in person (do let us know if you have any catering requirements). Together we will explore the risk associated with upholding standards and discuss appropriate ways to mitigate risk. The workshop will be interactive. It will be an opportunity for you to learn about the history and progress of the project and to take part in group work to;

  • Think about risk and risk rating
  • Discuss models for assuring the quality of standards
  • Consider the challenges of different models
  • Raise awareness of the impact of quality assurance mechanisms on organisations

Your input will feed into a pilot draft set of materials. The draft will be available in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish and will be used during the pilot phase of the project in early 2018. For more information about this project and the consultation process please see our website.

This workshop is free, but spaces are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. There will be a limit of 2 persons per organisation. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Please forward this invitation to your colleagues and contacts with an interest in quality assurance of competencies or anyone who works towards the training of humanitarian workers. For alternative and additional ways of contributing to the drafting process, including one-to-one meetings and focus group discussions please contact us directly at HPI@pearson.com

The event in Jordan is one of three regional workshops that will inform the structure and content of the draft quality assurance mechanisms. It is an opportunity for us to gather your input, to identify the key components of the quality assurance system to support these new standards. This work is part of a broader initiative, aiming to ensure that people involved in humanitarian action have access quality learning programmes and assessment opportunities that enable them to operate more effectively.

We do hope that you will be able to attend.
