Event description
Northern Powergrid's 2019 Stakeholder Summit - open to anyone interested in how to deliver a decarbonised energy future for the North.

About this Event

The North is facing the very real challenge of reducing carbon emissions to prevent irreversible climate change.

As the electricity distributor for Yorkshire, Humberside and the North East serving more than 8 million people, Northern Powergrid are holding a stakeholder summit and bringing together leaders from across the region, to shape our future plans and help put our region at the forefront of the low-carbon revolution.

We value your insight and expertise and hope you will be able to join us to discuss a range of issues, including:

  • Providing a smart, clean energy network, shaped by customer and stakeholder needs – today and for future generations
  • Accelerating decarbonisation and prepare for the realities of our changing climate - A key topic will be how we enable the electrification of transport and support clean air zones
  • Reshaping our network so it is more responsive to the changing needs of our customers and the growth of new technologies
  • Balancing the needs of an active network with our social responsibilities as a regional employer

We are thrilled to be joined by strategist, writer and broadcaster Dr Gabrielle Walker who will deliver this year’s keynote speech to delegates, exploring the global context of decarbonisation, reflecting on the role of energy in enabling change and assessing the challenges and changes the industry and organisations across the region need to make to achieve decarbonisation goals.

Dr Walker is a writer and broadcaster who works to address global challenges, with a focus on sustainability, energy, mobility, finance, land-use and climate change.

We are also privilaged to be joined by a range of experts who will contribute to discussion on the day, including:

  • Carol Botten - Chief Executive, Voluntary Organisations' North East Network
  • Andrew Brooks - Commissioning Mnaager, Lincolnshire County Council
  • Tom Knowland - Head of Sustainable Energy and Climate Change, Leeds City Council
  • Adam Scorer - Chief Executive, National Energy Action
  • Dr Sara Walker - Reader in Energy, Newcastle University
  • Stephen Prior - Director, Forest Carbon
