THE WORKSHOP

This half-day workshop will explore the importance of developing real and believable characters, across a variety of writing mediums and genres, and their key roles in driving the story forward. It will focus on looking at the art of creating a strong lead character who can effectively come to life for the reader, and how the construction of complex and layered characteristics is essential for a three-dimensional persona to be formed.

The workshop will involve a variety of writing exercises for creating a three-dimensional character, who can lead the reader/audience into the story, and throughout the developing plot. It will also look at well-known literary characters, both contemporary and classical, and how their creation as a three-dimensional ‘being’ - conveying a range of emotions, motivations, and behaviours - has effectively contributed to their popularity and sustainability.

The importance of appropriate research will also be examined, and how it helps to enforce ‘believability’ in fictional characters, and their connections and interactions with their surrounding environment.

A collection of her short stories was also recently performed at The Quad in Derby by actor/director Jack Brett Anderson.

Tina has taught writing courses and workshops at numerous colleges/universities/venues across the East Midlands, and currently teaches Creative Writing Short Courses at Nottingham Trent University.
