Need an infusion of joy? Enjoy making as much as Nicola and Marianne from Vortex Creates? Join us to discover the Vortex process and contribute to final installation for their upcoming exhibition JOY…inspired by nature.

Create fabric foliage alongside the artists to be part of the artwork to be exhibited.


Ages 16+


This opportunity is open to participants at any stage in their career alongside those whose journey is a ‘just for fun’ approach with a love for making in their spare time.


The aim for these sessions are to get lost in the JOY of working with textiles and be immersed in Vortex’s approach to concept, design and creation of work in a relaxed environment while providing an outlet to help people refresh their minds and bodies.


There are a number of sessions available and will be held at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Artspace, please make sure you note the time and location of the session you book.

Vortex are incredibly JOYful to have been commissioned by the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum to bring their vision of JOY to life, and successful in and Arts Council Project Development BID to make this work possible.


Sessions are free to attend and we can cover your travel and additional support up to £15 per session thanks to support from Arts Council England.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone come?

As long as you're over 16 and love making, yes!

Is there a cost to the workshop?

No. It is completely free, AND we can cover your travel and additional support up to £15 per session thanks to support from Arts Council England.

How do I claim my travel expenses?

If you are traveling by public transport within Coventry and Warwickshire please bring your travel ticket / receipt. If you are driving we will need to know your home address and will pay 30p per mile, plus parking for the duration of the workshop.

Can I take away what I make?

No, all work and materials remain the property of Vortex and will be used as part of the exhibition.

What is the access within the buildings?

Both the Herbert Art Gallery and Eaton House venues can be accessed by stairs or lifts. Workshops are not on the ground floor.

Do I need to bring any equipment?

No. Everything will be provided, however if you have a favourite pair of fabric scissors or your own sewing machine you would like for personal use then you are welcome to bring.

Can I come to more than one session?

Absolutely. You will need to book all sessions you want to attend on eventbrite, but you are very welcome to come to more than one.
