Recipes for Inclusion Presents: Creating Safety & Belonging for your Asian Employees and Colleagues, A Cultural Sensitivity Workshop

About this event

Join Lisa Wang, Diversity & Inclusion Speaker and Educator to hear about some of her favourite Recipes for Inclusion in the workplace. This event is for you if you would like to increase your understanding of all things race and inclusion and to learn about the issues that are affecting the Asian communities. This event will be of particular interest to HR leaders, D&I champions and senior management.

What is happening for our colleagues and employees from these communities?

In the past 18 months, the term ‘anti-Asian hate’ has gained traction, referring to the surge of racism and violence directed at people of East and Southeast Asian descent from the emergence of Covid and beyond. This definition includes but is not limited to people of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Singaporean and Malaysian descent. While the outbreak of Covid is behind us, the anti-Asian sentiments it brought up have a much longer history than the pandemic and ongoing systemic issues affecting these communities are often de-prioritised and minimised. The workplace is one of the key areas where micro-aggressions go unnoticed and Asian employees are at particular risk of feeling invisible.

What does it mean to be a better colleague and employer?

We all live and work in increasingly diverse communities where we are inclusive in our values and intentions. Companies are facing a huge amount of scrutiny on these issues in today’s call-out culture, especially when individuals are becoming increasingly literate in D&I. This workshop will give greater context to the issues your colleagues and employees may be facing as well as give constructive advice on how to navigate these challenges, so that we can make sure we are treating people how they want to be treated and build safety, purpose and belonging.

In this Recipes for Inclusion workshop, we will be exploring these topics in a safe space:

• anti-Asian racism and discrimination basics

• how to create a supportive workplace environment for ESEA colleagues and employees

• key ingredients for challenging yet compassionate conversations in the workplace

Guests will also leave this workshop with additional resources and reading lists that will empower them to continue the discussion beyond the session.
