About this event

Join us for a powerful and timely conversation with RSA Fellow Eric Sandelands, author of the article “Urban Design Rules to Maximize Social Capital in Communities”.
Drawing from his background in construction and large-scale programme management, Eric reflects on the visible erosion of community ties - and offers practical, global examples of how intentional urban design can reverse the trend.
At the heart of this event is the question: how do we design better places that enable connection, trust, and shared belonging?
Whether you're an RSA Fellow, a city planner, an architect, or someone passionate about community-building, your voice matters. We want to hear your perspectives and experiences from around the world as we explore how social capital can be revitalised through thoughtful, inclusive place-making.
This conversation will draw on global examples like Vauban (Germany), Kampung Admiralty (Singapore), Superkilen (Copenhagen), and Comuna 13 (Medellín) to illustrate how design can empower people and reconnect neighbourhoods.
Let’s come together to reimagine the spaces we live in - not just as structures, but as catalysts for meaningful human connection.
