PLEASE NOTE THE TALK WILL BEGIN AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30AM IN THE SCREEN ROOM
Guest Speaker – 'Feeding The Beast' by Jim Shields, Creative Director of Twist & Shout.
It’s easy to get into a creative rut, and simply make what might be incremental changes to your well worn formula for whatever it is you create. Sometimes you need to feed your internal creative beast.
The beast can be magnificent and powerful – but there are dark forces that can drain your super powers.
- Budget restrictions
- Client Intervention
- Fear of frightening off the client
- Voices in your head
- Trying to behave “professionally"
All of these can sap your creative energy.
STOP! Breathe. It’s all going to be OK.
You can kick start your creativity with a change of environment, or a new person to bounce off. Even a taste of something you’ve never eaten before.
I will endeavour to re-create that exciting moment from your school days when a dog ran into the schoolyard, and everyone went mental.
Warning: There might be performance elements of this presentation that are completely original.
About Jim Shields
Jim has had a passion for filmmaking ever since he discovered that he could combine the flickerbooks he was drawing, with sounds he'd captured in jars. For the last 25 years he has run Twist & Shout Communications, based in Leicester, working for global clients such as Sony, Warner Bros and Barclays. More recently, he has made short comedies for the "interweb" to help companies achieve a better public profile, despite their crushingly dull products and services.
He travels the world creating campaigns and running workshops for marketing teams, mostly on how they can use comedy to get noticed and create intimacy with their customers. Jim has spoken at CIN (Creative Industries Network), RANT (London) and regularly at KD Media College, Dallas TX. He's recently written his debut book 'Three Guys Walk Into A Bar: How To Thrive As A Creative Business'.
