Join artist Sophie Lou for this exciting Cyanotype Workshop to learn, create and explore the alternative photographic process of cyanotype.
Join us in a beautiful private garden 'Treetops Garden' in Rayleigh, Essex, where you will be able to select from a wide variety of flowers, leaves, seeds and other natural materials to create your own unique work using the natural ultraviolet light in sunlight.
You will be guided through each process-
- coating and preparing the paper/fabric with the light sensitive solution
- selecting your own natural materials
- exposing the papers to create your cyanotypes
- exploring techniques to create effects
- washing the papers with water to fix the cyanotype
- the drying process
No prior experience or knowledge is needed and all materials for the workshop will be provided. (If you would like to bring specific materials for your creations you are welcome to.)
Spaces limited!
Sophie Lou has been developing her art practice with cyanotypes for 8 years, often combining the non-lens based process with three dimensional sculpture as well as abstract and natural imagery.
Light refreshments provided, please advise of any allergies.
Please note that this garden is terraced and has a steep incline with multiple flights of stairs so may be unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
We will be working in an outdoor covered area, but in the case of extreme weather, the event will be rescheduled.
